Acupuncture is one of the many and varied therapies of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It involves the insertion of hair fine needles into certain locations on the body in order to stimulate ‘Qi’, the body’s healing energy.
Acupuncture is fast becoming recognised all over the world as a safe, reliable method of treatment for a great many conditions. In fact, the World Health Organisation website published a list of diseases, symptoms or conditions for which acupuncture has been proved-through controlled trials-to be a treatment with a demonstrable benefit.
What Acupuncture Can Treat?
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are extremely successful in the treatment of a multitude of conditions. Many people try Acupuncture and TCM as a “last resort” to serious and complex medical problems and find that it can help them when other treatments could not.
Acupuncture is also often used as a preventative medicine. Many people see their acupuncturist only 2-4 times a year for a “tune up” or “re-balancing” treatment. This can prevent disease and promote health, energy and vitality.
What problems are commonly treated with Acupuncture?
The most common ailments presented tend to be pain related conditions. For example; arthritis, back, neck, knee and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and sciatica. Chronic pain where there may be limited range of movement/flexibility is also commonly treated by acupuncture.
TCM is a complete medical system that is capable of diagnosing and successfully treating a wide range of conditions including: (although this is by no means a complete list of what Acupuncture TCM can treat)
