Korean Hand Therapy

The theory of Korean Hand Therapy was first originated, studied and developed by The Korean acupuncturist, Dr. Tae Woo Yoo between 1971 and 1975. Since that time Korean Hand Therapy has spread to the public worldwide.

Korean Hand Therapy(KHT) is also called ‘Korean Sooji Chim', is a Korean form of acupuncture and massage for bringing the body to balance and wellness through your hands. By stimulating specific points on the hands, you can resolve pain and balance internal organ function.

KHT is a micro-acupuncture and reflex system located on both hands. You could think of the hands being a micro-universe of the entire body. The hands have an entire, but smaller, system of meridians that correspond to the body’s meridian system. It is a very simple and extremely effective method of treatment for both internal and external conditions. Through the hands the therapist can access information about the condition of your whole body and create a treatment plan to alleviate pain, calm ills and prevent disease.  The stimulation of the hand is very effective due to the presence of a large number of sympathetic nerve fibres in the hands.

What can Korean Hand Therapy treat?

KHT is very effective in treating a wide range of ailments, including:

General Aches and Pains

Chronic Pain

Neck Pain

Stomach Upset

Bronchial Issues

Common Cold

Rheumatic Arthritis

Bedwetting in Children

Acute Pain

Back Pain

Conditions that require surgery and infectious diseases cannot be cured using hand acupuncture. However, KHT treatment can play a useful part in complementing Western Medicine by alleviating pain and promoting recovery and lessen the side effects of chemotherapy in cancer patients, relieving nausea,

Why have Korean Hand Therapy?

If you are in pain or have a problem somewhere in your body, the reactions are reflected on the hands in the form of tender points. Pain commonly or frequently shown on the hands corresponds to the painful part of your body. Therefore, the stimulation of the tender points positively affects pain relief.

The benefits of Korean Hand Therapy include:

  • Strong and fast results with no side effects
  • Pain reduction within seconds
  • Individualised treatments for energetically addressing various conditions

KHT is also a great treatment option for:

  • Adults who have a fear of needles - using the non-invasive techniques
  • Children - using the non-invasive techniques
  • Those with mobility problems, as treatment only takes place on the hands
  • Those who may prefer to be treated on the hands rather than receive full body acupuncture
  •  As an adjunct to body acupuncture

What happens during a treatment?

KHT may be used in conjunction with another treatment, such as acupuncture, or as a stand-alone treatment.  The specific acupuncture points will be identified first following a history of symptoms and lifestyle consultation. They will then be stimulated by using one or more of the following techniques: Hand Needles, Press-Pellets, Moxa, Magnets, KHT Silver Ring, or Cyber Hand, Detox Patches.  Frequently, you will be asked to leave the press pellets or magnets overnight to increase the effect of the treatment.

How many treatments would I need?

This would be dependent on the symptoms and how long they have been present for.  The benefit of KHT is that using pellets and magnets the treatment effect can continue at home for many days afterwards.  Your practitioner will discuss the best treatment options with you and offer lifestyle advice on how you can help yourself as well.
